Degree Requirements

Requirements for Master Degree:


  Requirements for Master’s Degree include compulsive courses, selective courses (24 credits from AC or other departments, 12 out of 24 credits from AC) and a written thesis with a thesis defense.  The master students should complete required courses and oral examination within 1~4 years. However, our University only offers a scholarship for two years in general.  Master and Phd students might receive more financial aid from supervisor’s research grant.

I.Compulsive Courses:

    AC5901301 Seminar (1): 0 credit

    AC5902301 Seminar (2): 0 credit

    Academic Research Ethics Course: 0 credit (since fall 2016 )

II.Selective Courses:

    At least 24 credits of selective courses (English courses) from Graduate Institute of Automation and Control (GIAC) or other departments are required.

III.Thesis and Defense (Oral exam):

    There are two semesters in each academic year. The Master students, having received the required credits and finishing an academic thesis, could apply for thesis defense (oral examination) in any semester according to oral exam regulations.  For detailed rules, refer to contents on the website/graduation exams and notices from AC office.

 

Requirements for Phd Degree:

 


    Requirements for Phd’s Degree include compulsive courses, selective courses (18 credits from AC or other departments, out of 18 credits from AC) and a written Dissertation with a Dissertation defense.  The Phd students should complete required courses and oral examination within 2 ~ 7 years. However, our University only offers a scholarship for three years in general. Master and Phd students might receive more financial aid from supervisor’s research grant.

I.Compulsive Courses for Phd’s Degree:

    AC7911301 Graduate Seminar (1): 0 credit

    AC7912301 Graduate Seminar (2): 0 credit

    AC7913301 Graduate Seminar (3): 0 credit

    AC7914301 Graduate Seminar (4): 0 credit

    Academic Research Ethics Course: 0 credit (since fall 2016)

II.Selective Courses for Phd’s Degree:

    At least 18 credits of selective courses (English courses) from Graduate Institute of Automation and Control (GIAC) or other departments are required.

III.Qualification Examination:

    PhD. students are required to pass Ph.D. Degree candidacy's qualifying within first two years of study. The qualification exam is normally conducted in the second semester of each academic year. The PhD. Student may choose one of the following three ways to pass the qualification examination in our department.

  1. Complete three kernel courses of GIAC and get an average grade of  “A”

  2. Pass two optional examination (applied mathematics, control system, computer program and application)

  3. Publish an academic paper (SCI)

IV.Keynote Lectures and Publications:

    A public keynote lecture (or a dissertation symposium at home or abroad) is required, and at least two Publications, which shall be strictly reviewed, have been published or accepted in formal periodicals (such as SCI journals).

V.Dissertation and Defense (Oral exam):

    There are two semesters in each academic year. The PhD. students, having finished the previous requirements and a Dissertation, could apply for Dissertation defense (oral examination) in any semester according to Phd. oral exam regulations. For detailed rules, refer to contents on the website/graduation exams and notices from AC office.
