    Graduate Institute of Automation and Control (GIAC)  was founded to cultivate high-level professionals for the development of automated manufacturing systems in Taiwan’s industry. Our master’s and doctoral programs were launched in 2003 and 2007, respectively. By combining our strengths in the fields of automation and control, we can offer interdisciplinary curricula and a wide range of research opportunities. Currently, seven full-time faculty members and more than twenty joint-appointments from the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering are involved in the teaching and research at our institute. Main areas of research include modern control theory, intelligent control, sensing, robotics, machine vision, image processing, automated optical inspection, opto-mechatronics, and green energy. GIAC runs 9 research labs, which offer state-of-the art facilities for innovative research projects and teaching.

 


    With the industrial updating and transition from labor-intensive to capital-technology-intensive hi-tech industry featuring high added value and system integration in Taiwan, the engineering professionals are indispensable elements in this industry. So, the focus of this school is on intelligent control theory and application and OME system integration and application, both of which are closely related as the key technologies in hi-tech industry. In line with the government policy of giving an impetus to industrial development, this school attempts to implement relevant courses helpful to cultivate competitive professionals in the field of automation and control, and facilitate the industrial updating.
